Getting Started

Installing Whopper Cropper
To run up Whopper Cropper, you will need a Pentium personal computer of 120Mhz or greater, with the Office 97 version of Microsoft Access. The Whopper Cropper program occupies just over 7.4 Mb of hard disk space. The APSIM simulations in the Whopper Cropper database are much larger, and are accessed from a CD.

To install Whopper Cropper:

  1. Insert the CD.
  2. In Windows Explorer, open the CD drive. This contains regional folders of crop data and a Setup.exe file. The regional folders contain the Access databases in which the APSIM simulations are stored.
  3. Double click on the Setup.exe file, and follow the instructions to install Whopper Cropper.
  4. Select <Yes> to reboot the computer, if requested

The standard setup procedure installs the Whopper Cropper program onto your hard drive, with the databases remaining on the CD. You will need to have the CD in the drive to use Whopper Cropper.

The expanding size of the Whopper Cropper database means that you may have been provided with more than one CD, containing different crops and/or regions. There is no need to reinstall Whopper Cropper to access data on a different CD. Simply place the required CD in the CD drive of your computer before starting Whopper Cropper.

If you are interested in only one or two regions, Whopper Cropper access times can be reduced by copying the data for those regions onto your hard drive, and pointing to the directory in the whoppercropper.ini file.

The whoppercropper.ini file can be found in the WhopperCropper directory installed by default under the C:\ directory of Windows 95. To access data from your hard drive, copy the data from a CD to, for example, a new folder called c:\whopperdata. Then edit the "Datasets" section of the whoppercropper.ini file.
